What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is a procedure used to repair and save a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay or infection. During root canal treatment, the root canals of the infected tooth will be filled and sealed to stop further damage.

During your root canal appointment, your dentist will first take an X-ray to identify the extent of the damage. The root canal procedure will involve removing the infected tissue, cleaning and shaping the root canals, filling the root canals with an anti-bacterial material, and then sealing them off to protect them from further infection.

Root canal treatment is generally a comfortable procedure that causes minimal discomfort for patients. Depending on how severe your tooth infection is, your dentist may prescribe pain medication or anaesthesia to ensure you are comfortable during your root canal appointment.

Following treatment, it is important to take good care of your teeth and gums in order to prevent further problems from occurring. This includes brushing twice daily and flossing at least once per day. Additionally, regular checkups with your dentist are essential to maintaining your oral health.

All in all, root canal treatment is a relatively straightforward procedure used to repair and save a damaged tooth. It is generally a comfortable experience for patients and can help preserve your smile for years to come. With proper care, root canal treatment can be extremely successful and help you keep your teeth healthy long-term.

What are the benefits of a root canal?

  • Prevents tooth loss.
  • Prevents infection of neighbouring teeth.
  • Boosts the aesthetics of teeth.
  • Prevents jawbone degeneration.
  • Boosts oral and overall health.
  • Virtually painless.

We use the latest technology and rotary equipment. Our Wave One gold Endo system is a single file and single-use rotary technique with the advanced design of gold wire technology and reciprocating movement. Preparing canals is now easier, faster and safer.

4 Stages of a Root Canal Treatment:

  • Stage 1: Diagnosing the infected tooth.
  • Stage 2: Getting rid of the infection by cleaning canals.
  • Stage 3: A new root canal filling is placed to fill tooth canals.
  • Stage 4: The tooth is restored.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

After having treatment, your Dentist may recommend a crown to complete your treatment. A root canal may save the tooth from further infection. However, this does not prevent the tooth from weakening and becoming brittle. A crown will help protect the tooth from breaking. A crown will restore the tooth to its normal size, shape and function.
